STAUNTON

Doree Lynn Fuller

Doree Lynn Fuller, 35, of Staunton, died on Mon., June 9, 2008 at Dr. P. Phillip Hospital in Orlando, Fla.

She was born on January 27, 1973 in Miami, Fla., the daughter of Paul Fantene and Mary Robbins Fouse.

She married Gary Fuller Sr. on May 29, 1993 in Staunton, and he survives.

She graduated from Staunton High School with the Class of 1992. She was a manager of Mt. Olive Monument Company, a devoted mom and wife. She was a Staunton Cub Scout Pack Leader, a baseball board member, and a Jaguar Football board member.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Fuller Sr. of Staunton; her sons, Gary Fuller Jr. and Kevin Fuller, both of Staunton; her father, Paul Fantene and his wife, Debbie of O’Fallon, Ill.; her mother, Mary Fouse and her husband, Fred of Miami, Fla.; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Robbins of Milford, Mich.; her aunts, Laurie Raymond and her husband, Keith and Kim Lanigan and her husband, Pat; and her uncle, Steve Robbins and his wife, Linda and six cousins, all of Fla.; her mother-in-law, Mary Melton and her brothers-in-law, David and Steven Melton, all of St. Louis, Mo.; her brother-in-law, Larry Fuller and his wife, Tracey; her nieces Autumn, Madison, and Jordan, all of Mt. Olive; her sister-in-law, Dawn White and her husband, Kenny and Nancy Kemiskey and her husband, Ryan; and her nieces, Sydney and Taylor and her nephews, Matthew and Dylan, all of Staunton.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Robert Robbins; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Emma Fantene; and her aunt, Linda Fletcher.

Visitation was held on Fri., June 13 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. Funeral services were held on Sat., June 14 at 3 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Allison officiating. A eulogy was delivered by her friend, Chris Tingle. A poem, "Miss Me, But Let Me Go" was read by her aunt, Barb Najbart.Her husband, Gary Fuller Sr.; her sons, Gary Jr. and Kevin Fuller; her brothers-in-law, Larry Fuller, David and Steven Melton, Kenny White, and her nephew, Matthew White, all served as pall bearers. Her favorite recordings of "When I Get to Where I’m Going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton, "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan, and "Don’t Blink" by Kenny Chesney were played during funeral services. Memorials are suggested to a college fund for her sons, Gary Jr. and Kevin. Lunch was served for family and friends at Staunton VFW and was served by the Touchdown club following the services.

 

LIVINGSTON

Nancy L. Augustine

Nancy L. Augustine, 64, of Livingston, died on Thurs., June 12, 2008 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.

She was born on July 2, 1943 in Litchfield, the daughter of Henry and Margariete (Kreuter) Augustine.

She was divorced.

She was a teacher and counselor. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. She received her Master’s Degree from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. She began her teaching career in 1965, and taught in several states including California, South Carolina, Connecticut, and Illinois. She finished her career with the Tulsa Public Schools, Tulsa, Okla., retiring in 2000 after 33 years of teaching. She was a member of Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association and a member of Democratic Precinct Committee Person in Oklahoma for 20 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Noel Campbell of Tulsa, Okla.; one granddaughter, Piper Lee; her brother, James H. Augustine of Livingston; her sister-in-law, Shirley Augustine; two nieces, Amy Rupert and Jamie Augustine; and one nephew, Sgt. Driscoll Augustine, U.S. Army.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, George Driscoll Augustine.

Visitation was held on Mon., June 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lesicko Funeral Home, 271 N. 2nd Street, Livingston, Ill. Funeral services were held on Tues., June 17 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston with Fr. Robert Porter officiating. Interment was held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Livingston. STAUNTON

Mary Belle Tomlinson

Mary Belle Tomlinson, 88, of Staunton, died on Sat., June 14, 2008 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton.

She was born on February 18, 1920 in Harco, Ill., the daughter of the late Arthur Wilson and the late Leta (Poole) Wilson.

She married Lewis H. Tomlinson on December 28, 1939 in Jackson, Mo., and he preceded her in death on October 18, 1996.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Southern Baptist Church in Staunton. She loved to quilt and crochet.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Tomlinson and his wife, Linda of Plainview, Ill. and Ricky Tomlinson and his wife, Cindy of Staunton; three daughters, Sharon Keplar and her husband, Charles of Collinsville, Shirley Ray and her husband, Dan of Staunton, and Christina Partridge of Gillespie; her son-in-law, Gene Roseberry of Girard; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; and seven sister, Helen Hall, Ruth Rumsey, Lucille Holman, Betty Atkins, Frances Schwartz, Doris Bounanicci, and Mabel Serles; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Roseberry and one brother, Howard Wilson.

Friends were able to call on Tues., June 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be held on Wed., June 18 at 11 a.m. at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Burial was held on Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. STAUNTON

James W. Morris

James W. Morris, 57, of Staunton, died on Thurs., June 12, 2008 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton.

He was born on October 4, 1950 in Granite City, Ill., the son of William H. Morris and Dolores F. (Polka) Morris.

He was divorced.

He was a flooring installer and was self-employed for 28 years. He served in the U.S. National Guard. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton.

He is survived by his son, Chad Morris and his wife, Tina of Edwardsville; his parents, William H. and Dolores F. Morris of Staunton; one sister, Nancy Symank and her husband, John of Danville, Calif.; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends were able to call on Mon., June 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton. Funeral services were held on Tues., June 17 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton with Rev. Darwin Schroeder officiating. Burial was held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. MASCOUTAH

Michael J. Wisnasky

Michael J. Wisnasky, 64, of Mascoutah, died on Thurs., June 12, 2008 at his residence in Mascoutah.

He was born on February 24, 1944 in Marine, the daughter of the late Joseph M. Wisnasky and Emeline E. (McCain) Wisnasky.

He married Carol A. (Bastian) Wisnasky, and they divorced. He married Eileen K. (Toombs) Wisnasky, and she survives.

He was born and raised in Marine, and graduated from St. Paul High School in Highland in 1962. Two years later, he enlisted in the U.S. Army with duty with "The Organization of American States International Forces - Dominican Republic" from 1965 to 1966. He had worked at Vahalla Cemetery in Belleville. After his marriage, he worked for Laborer Local Union #459 in Belleville, and had worked at Vahalla Cemetery in Belleville. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and flowers. He had his first heart attack at the age of 38 and has spent the last two years and nine months on Hospice.

He is survived by his second wife, Eileen K. (Toombs) Wisnasky of Mascoutah; his first wife, Carol A. (Bastian) Wisnasky of New Baden; three daughters, Laura J. Dahm and her husband, Dave of St. Charles, Mo., Michelle J. Wisnasky of Mascoutah, and Theresa A. Friedrich and her husband, Shawn of Highland; five sons, Dwayne J. Wisnasky and his wife, Stormie of Tilden, Ill., Christopher M. Wisnasky and his wife, Pat of Fort Knox, Ky., Johnathan G. Wisnasky and his wife, Vicki of New Baden, Ill., Raymond S. Wisnasky and his wife, Amy of Mascoutah, Christopher M. Toombs and his wife, Wendy of New Baden, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and one due in December and three great-grandchildren; eight brothers, William J. Wisnasky and his wife, Sharon of Cottage Hills, Ill., Benjamin H. Wisnasky of New Douglas, Ill., George H. Wisnasky and his wife, Cindy of Staunton, James S. Wisnasky of Peoria, Ill., Leto A. Wisnasky and his wife, Nola of Columbus, Ga., Donald L. Wisnasky of Jerseyville, Ill., and Charles C. Wisnasky and his wife, Jeannie of Jerseyville, Ill.; two sisters, Sylvia A. Pendegraft and her husband, Lloyd of Summerfield, Ill. and Sybil E. Ferguson of Alton; many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. Wisnasky, who died August 21, 1968; his mother, Emeline E. (McCain) Wisnasky, who died December 21, 1990; two brothers, Allan R. "Buckwheat" Wisnasky, who died December 21, 1990 and Francis R. "Frank" Wisnasky, who died June 28, 1995; and his sister, Shirley M. Castle, who died August 1997.

Visitation was held on Tues., June 17 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Visitation will continue on Wed., June 18 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. HIGHLAND

Delores E. Zobrist

Delores E. Zobrist, 80, of Highland, died on Fri., June 6, 2008 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland.

She was born on June 26, 1927 in Waterloo, Ill., the daughter of the late William A. Marquardt Sr. and the late Bertha (Schneider) Marquardt.

She married Earl W. Zobrist on October 5, 1946 in Highland; he preceded her in death on April 30, 2000.

She was born in Waterloo; in 1935, she and her family moved to Grantfork, Ill. She attended and graduated from Grantfork School. She worked for a time at Moulton-Bartley Shoe Factory in Highland. Following the death of her mother, she took care of and maintained the home for her siblings and her father. After her marriage, she lived in the Highland/Marine, Ill. area all her life. She had worked at the Marine Garment Factory, as a seamstress, for some thirty years and had retired when the factory closed in 1986. She then worked in maintenance at the U.S. Post Office in Marine, Ill. for a number of years. She moved to Highland in 2007 and into the Highland Health Care Center in March of 2008. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and walking. She was a former member of First Christian Church in Marine; a former member of Marine Senior Citizens; a former member of 5-Star Club of Central Bank in Marine; a former member of Christian Women’s Fellowship-Marine; and a member of International Ladies Garment Workers Union #104.

She is survived by her daughter, Kandra F. "Kandi" Wernie of Highland; and three sisters, Frances Wisnasky of Marine, Bernice M. Willman of Highland, and Linda (Morris) Zobrist of Highland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and six brothers, Robert Marquardt, Sylvester Marquardt, who died on December 4, 1994; William A. Marquardt Jr., who died on October 23, 1959; Cletus Marquardt, who died on June 18, 1991; Leroy Marquardt; and Leonard Marquardt, who died in infancy.

Visitation was held on Mon., June 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and continued on Tues., June 10 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Laura Deininger

Laura Lee (Lyerla) Deininger, 46, of Worden, went to be with her Lord on Wed., June 11, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.

She was born on January 20, 1962 in Staunton, the daughter of Lyle and Violet (Schneider) Lyerla. She was a lifelong resident of Worden and enjoyed working in church, club and civic activities, especially those involving her children.

She married John Deininger on Sept. 2, 1988, and he survives.

She received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Lewis & Clark Community College in 1988 and was a nurse at SIUE Medical Center. She was a member of the Worden Christian Church and a Trustee of the WildeWood Homeowners Association.

Besides her husband and parents of Worden, she is survived by two daughters and one son, Nicole Nowitzki and her husband, Matt, Katy and Eric Deininger at home; one stepdaughter, Amanda Blankley and her husband, Eric of Livingston; three step-grandchildren, Austin Deininger, MaKayla Reeves, and Brandon Blankley, all of Livingston; one sister, Lisa Wolbert and her husband, Jeff of Worden; her brother, Patrick Lyerla and his wife, Carrie of Wood River; her father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Marie Deininger of Livingston; one brother-in-law, Jerry Dale Deininger of Livingston; one nephew, J.T. Wolbert of Worden; two nieces, Jordan Bruns and Laura Lyerla of Wood River. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and by her faithful dog, Star.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Warren and Nellie Lyerla and Allen and Gertrude Schneider of Worden.

Visitation was held on Sat., June 14 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Worden Christian Church. Funeral services were held on Sat., June 14 at 11 a.m. at the church with Roger Quarton officiating. Therese M. Teisa

Therese M. Teisa, 81, of Benld, died on Mon., June 9, 2008 at Heritage Manor of Staunton.

She was born on Fri., August 20, 1926 in Benld, the daughter of the late Joseph Miklos and the late Mary (Kozak) Miklos.

She married John E. Teisa on August 9, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Benld, and he survives.

She was a retired medical assistant after 38 years of service. She served in a doctor’s office and at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton. She was a member of Jednota Lodge.

She is survived by her husband, John Teisa of Benld; her son, Emil Teisa of Coffeen, Ill.; her brother, George Miklos of Derby, Kan.; her sister, Dorothy Christopher of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, John Miklos and Joseph Miklos.

Visitation will be held on Sat., June 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Benld. A memorial Mass will be held on Sat., June 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Monsignor Larry Auda officiating. Rosemary Messner will perform music on the organ during services. Interment of cremated remains will be held on Sat., June 21 at Benld Cemetery in Benld. Kravanya Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

George Lavern Miller Sr.

George Lavern Miller Sr., 76, of Rushville, Ill., formerly of Mt. Olive, died on Mon., June 2, 2008 at Suwanee Health Care in Live Oak, Fla.

He was born on September 7, 1931 in Panama, Ill., the son of the late George H. Miller and the late Mary C. Vogel.

He married Mary Colleen (Kennedy) Miller on January 11, 1950 in Walshville, Ill., and she preceded him in death on September 25, 2003.

He attended Panama schools. He was a member of Grace Bible Church in Beardstown, Ill. He was a retired machine operator for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary C. Gary and her husband, Marty R. of Macclenny, Fla. and Susan L. Abblitt and her husband, David of Grants Pass, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Babe Miller of Sawyerville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, George L. Miller Jr. and Ronald L. Miller; his granddaughter, Brandi Miller; and three brothers, Charles, Russell, and Johnny Miller.

Visitation was held on Fri., June 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. Funeral services were held on Sat., June 7 at 10 a.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Crescentia Louisa (Boehm) Jacob

Crescentia Louisa (Boehm) Jacob, 99, of Litchfield, died on Fri., June 6, 2008 at Heritage Manor of Litchfield in Litchfield.

She was born on April 6, 1909 in Litchfield, the daughter of the late Jacob Boehm and the late Ellanora (Wolfe) Boehm.

She married Henry R. Jacob Jr. on June 29, 1929 in Litchfield, and he preceded her in death on February 26, 1999.

She is survived by her son, Vernon Jacob and his wife, Barbara of Litchfield; three daughters, Velva Homan and her husband, Bill of Godfrey, Vida Marit and her husband, Charles of Litchfield, Viva Wolfe and her husband, Jim of Gillespie; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and the "son" they took in, Howard Boston and his wife, Darlene of New Baden, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; her son, Virgil Jacob; her daughter Velma Jacob; and her brother, Paul Boehm.

Visitation was held on Mon., June 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie. Funeral services were held on Mon., June 9 at 11 a.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie with Monsignor Larry Auda officiating. Burial was held on Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield on Mon., June 9.

ELSAH, Ill.

Virginia Segraves

Virginia Segraves, 81, went to be with the Lord on Thurs., June 5, 2008 at her home.

She was born on June 19, 1926 in Pleasant Hill, Ill., the daughter of Alvin and Verna (Heavner) Grover.

She joined hands in matrimony with Nelson Seagraves on November 25, 1946 in Alton, and on June 5, 2008, their hands are now joined for eternity. Nelson passed away on September 6, 1986.

She was a homemaker. She loved cooking, especially baking pies and the Christmas season.

She is survived by one daughter, Shelia Segraves of Elsah; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jeannie Federle of Elsah and Verna Mae and Herman Whitten of Monette, Mo.; a nephew and his wife, Dennis and Frankie Federle of Elsah, along with other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Marvin, Nolan and Marion Grover and three sisters, Ann Whitten, Sylvia Smith and Alta Henry.

In celebration of her life, a visitation was held on Sun., June 8 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Funeral services were held on Mon., June 9 at 11 a.m at the funeral home with Rev. Robert McAdams officiating. Burial was held at Elsah Cemetery. HIGHLAND

Herman E. "Sparky" Sparks

Herman E. "Sparky" Sparks, 86, of Highland, died on Sat., June 7, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

He was born on March 30, 1922 in Onley, Ill., the son of the late George L. Sparks and the late Hazel E. (Vaughn) Sparks Gregory.

He married Janet N. Carson on May 11, 1940 in St. Charles, Mo., and she preceded him in death on October 2, 1987.

He served with the U.S. Army Infantry from July 25, 1944 until Dec. 20, 1945, with duty in Central Europe, the Rhinelands, and Ardennes; was a prisoner of war in Germany for three months. He lived in Salem, Ill. after marriage. He and his wife travelled throughout the U.S. as he followed the boilermaker welding trade. They settled in Highland, Ill. in March of 1963. He retired in 1973. He built a mirrored ball at Lindendale Park Ball Room and made stainless steel belt buckles. He enjoyed traveling especially going on bus tours. He was a life member of VFW Post #5694; an honorary member of Helvetia Sharpshooters Society; a member of Lee Iten Post 439, American Legion; a member of Highland Masonic Lodge 583 AF & AM for 43 years, all of Highland; a life member POW-Okaw Valley Chapter; and an American Ex Prisoner of War Life Member.

He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn S. Jackson and her husband, James of Highland and Donna J. Sparks and her partner, Susan Michalet of Alexandria, Va.; his companion, Frances "Tootie" Barth of Highland; two grandchildren, James Allen Jackson of Vernon, Ill. and Connie Rene Zobrist and her husband, Ted of Highland; one great-grandchild, Brittney Rene Zobrist of Highland; his half-sister, Bonnie Lou Kelly of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and his step-sister, Molly Ann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Charles W. Sparks and James Sparks, who died at the age of 3.

Visitation was held on Tues., June 10 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Visitation continued on Wed., June 11 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Elizabeth Bajcer

Elizabeth Bajcer, 85, of Silverdale, Washington, died on April 5, 2008 at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton, Wash.

She was born on January 24, 1923 in Benld, the daughter of the late George Sedlak and the late Mary (Stoffa) Sedlak.

She was a graduate of Benld High School. She was a retired police dispatcher and was employed with Cal Tech College Police Department in California.

She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Peabody of Silverdale, Wash., Mary Ann Schmidt of Silverdale, Wash., and Joni Lee Millen and her husband, Dave of Linden, Wash.; three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a brother, George Sedlak and his wife, Katherine of Benld also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, John Schmidt; her brother, Andy Sedlak; her sisters, Mary Hulka and Anna Antolik.

Her remains were cremated. Burial of cremated remains was in Benld Cemetery.

ST. CHARLES, Mo., FORMERLY OF MT. OLIVE

Rolland L. Heien

Rolland L. Heien, 72, of St. Charles, Mo., formerly of Mt. Olive, died on Tues., June 10, 2008 at his residence in St. Charles, Mo.

He was born on November 23, 1935, the son of the late William A. Heien and the late Hulda (Kruse) Heien.

He married Evelyn F. (Bravin) Heien on October 16, 1960 in Mt. Olive, and she survives.

He was a retired electrical engineer for McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1958 with a bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering. He worked for McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing from February 1958 to October 1991 with over 33 years of service until his retirement. Some of his years of service included AV-8 Avionics 1989-1991; F-15 TEWS 1971-1989; Conductron 1964-1971; and McAir Test & Sim Design 1958-1964.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Heien of St. Charles, Mo.; three sons, Keith Heien and his wife, Valerie of St. Charles, Mo., Ron Heien of Crystal City, Mo., Eric Heien and his wife, Jennifer of St. Charles, Mo.; his brother, Gene Heien of Athens, Ohio; four grandchildren, Andrew Heien, Matthew Heien, Kristine Heien, and April Heien; his sister-in-law, Jeanette Bravin of Belleville; and two cousins, Chuck Neff and Janice Neff also survive.

He was preceded in death by her parents.

Doris "Annie" Ulmrich

Doris "Annie" Ulmrich, 84, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton.

She was born on April 7, 1924 in Alton, IL, daughter of the late Frank & Olive Clair (Cress) Spencer.

She married John William Ulmrich on January 2, 1943 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton. He passed away on January 16, 2003.

Doris was employed at Sessels Men’s Clothing as a Taylor for over 10 years. She was a member of St. Kevin’s Catholic Church in Rosewood Heights where she also set up the church library, was a Sacristan & Eucharistic minister & lector. She loved to oil paint, working in the garden, sewing, enjoyed roses, and making church vestments.

She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Dr. Katherine S. & Dr. John M. Virgo of St. Louis, MO and Holly A. & Steve Lee of Richmond, KY; four grandchildren Richenda Ackman, Sarah Ackman, Miranda Ackman, and Debra Riekstins; five great grandchildren, Adam, Troy and Katrina Riekstins, Earl Schoneckeck III and Vanessa Tirado-Grundvig; one brother and sister-in-law, Gene & Lois Spencer of Godfrey; and two sisters and brother-in-law, Harriet Cobb of Godfrey and Mary Ellen & George Witt of White Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Olive, husband John, two brothers, Patrick Courtney Spencer and James Nelson Spencer and one sister, Helen Irene Spencer.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2008 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Josephine G. Kamp

Josephine G. Kamp, 87, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 at VIP Manor in Wood River, IL.

She was born March 25, 1921 in Alton, IL the daughter of the late Antone and Grace (Soelner) Hamberg.

She married Ray V. Kamp at St. Mary’s Church in Alton and he preceded her in death on March 5, 1957.

Survivors include 2 sisters, Louise (husband Homer) Curvey of Godfrey, IL, and Elsie Carhart of Lancaster, CA. 2 Sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hamberg of Alton and Alberta Hamberg of Alton. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Besides her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters and a brother-in-law, Dan Carhart.

Mrs. Kamp worked as a secretary at Western Southern Life Insurance Company for 40 years, retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

Private graveside services will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.

Lorman C. Bertels

Lorman C. Bertels, 72, of Dorsey, died on June 11, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton.

He was born on April 10, 1936 in Dorsey, the son of the late Wilbert E. Bertels and the late Bertha M. (Duelm) Bertels.

He married Mary Ann Koster on February 24, 1968 in Carlinville, and she survives.

He retired from Granite City Steel in 1994 after 42 years of service. He was also a farmer and had rental property. He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church of Dorsey; he was a volunteer firefighter for the Volunteer Fire Department; and was a member of Dorsey Community Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran. The U.S. Army veteran served from July 3, 1959 until June of 1961 in Germany. He later served from November 3, 1961 until September 1962 at Ft. Leonardwood and Camp McCoy.

She is survived by one son, David Bertels and his wife, Donna of Dorsey; three grandchildren, Kalie, Justin and Logan Bertels; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Bertels of Dorsey.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Wilmar Bertels.

Ella M. Scroggins, 72, of Livingston, died on Fri., May 30, 2008 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.

She was born on March 22, 1936 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Herbert R. Harms and Esther M. (Mullen) Kerin.

She married Raymond L. Scroggins on February 7, 1953 in Edwardsville, and he survives.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livingston.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond L. Scroggins of Livingston; two daughters, Jackie Stadler of Dodge City, Kan. and Carol Glisson of Livingston; two sons, Dan Scroggins and his wife, Yvonne of Staunton and Don Scroggins and his wife, Diane of Staunton; 11 grandchildren, Anna Blackwell and her husband, Ted, Raymond Cline, Harold Cline and his wife, Cindy, Sara Baker, Tammy Williams and her husband, Jeff, Amy Scroggins, Danny Scroggins Jr., and Joseph Scroggins, Nathan Scroggins, Thomas Scroggins, and Kelly Smith and her husband, Jeff; 15 great-grandchildren and one brother, Herbert R. Elona M. (Ella) Oltmann, 92, of Worden, died on Sun., June 1, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton.

She was born on August 21, 1915 in Worden, the daughter of the late Frank Vazzi and the late Hermenia (Hadar) Vazzi.

She married Victor A. Oltmann Sr., and he preceded her in death on December 1, 1977.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Livingston, Ill. and a member of Altar & Rosary Society of the church.

She is survived by two sons, Victor A. Oltmann and his wife, Joyce of New Douglas and John F. Oltmann and his wife, Betty of Edwardsville, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Mike and Leslie Oltmann, Scott, Sean, and William Fenton, Sara Jones, and Carrie Oltmann; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Steve (Pete) Vazzi of Worden; one sister, Julia McCurry of Worden; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Leta E. Plocher

Leta E. Plocher, 104, of Highland, died on Mon., May 26, 2008 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland.

She was born on September 19, 1903 in Jamestown, Ill, the daughter of the late John R. Pfister and the late Lea L. (Zobrist) Pfister.

She married Orville Louis Plocher on December 19, 1923 in Clinton County, Ill., and he preceded her in death on September 1, 1998.

She was born and raised in Jamestown, Clinton County, Illinois. She attended Fricker County School and Rubican Business College in St. Louis. She had worked for the old Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. in St. Louis, in the payroll department. After her marriage, she and her husband lived at his family farm east of Highland in Saline Township, where they operated a dairy farm until 1929. They then moved to the Downalane Farm northeast of Highland - her grandson continues to operate the farm there. In 1952, when her husband retired from farming, they moved into Highland. After his death, she lived at the Highland Home until 4/12/06, when she moved to the Fourth Floor of St. Joseph Hospital.

She organized and led the "Happy Hour" 4-H Club for many years; served as Treasurer of the Highland Public School P.T.A. for one term; was secretary for the Women’s Guild of the Evangelical United Church of Christ and served as president one term; was instrumental in organizing the Madison County Homemakers Organization; served as 4-H Chairman one term and president for one term; served as Chairman of the Homemakers Fair Kitchen for five years; was the Membership Chairman on the State Board of Illinois Homemakers for three years; was a a standby teacher for Evangelical UCC Sunday School for several years; was a long time members of Highland Senior Citizens and served a term as president; helping organize Home Health Services at St. Joseph Hospital and catered weddings at her church.

During her lifetime, she created over 200 beautiful quilts for her family and friends, her church, many organizations and facilities in Highland, Hoyleton and Alhambra. She enjoyed church work, quilting, sewing, and hand-work. She was in charge of the quilting program at her church.

She is survived by three daughters, Juanita L. Flamm and her husband, Howard of Smithboro, Ill., Janice M. Johns of Batavia, Ill., and Jo Etta Miller of Highland; one son, John Plocher and his wife, Betty of Pocahontas, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Steven J. Plocher and his wife, Connie of Pocahontas, Ill., Scott L. Plocher and his wife, Cheryl of Pontiac, Ill., Susan M. Urban and her husband, Charles "Chuck" of Highland, Sherry B. Victor Allen Bolar Sr.

Victor Allen Bolar Sr., 71, of Mt. Olive, died on Mon., May 26, 2008 at Heritage Manor of Staunton in Staunton.

He was born on May 21, 1937 in Hammond, Ind., the son of the late Joseph Bolar and the late Alma Heddy Fritzsche.

He married Peggy Reeder on September 11, 1958 in Carlinville. They divorced in 1979 and reunited in friendship in 1987.

He attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the Class of 1955. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive. He was a member of the Litchfield American Legion; a member of VFW Post 5790; a member of Illinois Abate. He loved fishing and gardening. He joined the United States Air Force in 1958 and served in Germany. He retired from the United State Air Force after 33 years of Service. He was employed as a shop foreman for Bond Ford, Staunton, before joining the service.

He is survived by his son, Victor Bolar Jr. of Mt. Olive; two sisters, Roleen Kirkwood of Mt. Olive and Norma Hard and her husband, William of Mt Olive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alma Heddy (Fritizsche) Bolar.

Betty A. McDole

Betty A. McDole, 87, of Staunton, died on Sat., December 22, 2007 at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton.

She was born on November 22, 1920 in Kewanee, Ill., the daughter of the late Terrance Foley and the late Susan (Misenheimer) Foley.

She married Dr. John W. McDole on December 21, 1942 in Big Springs, Texas, and he preceded her in death on October 12, 1998.

She worked with her husband at the family’s optometry offices for many years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton; and a member of Staunton Junior Service. She loved playing golf and engaging in everyday life with joy and a tremendous sense of humor. She was very proud of each of her children, who have conducted their lives in the same manner she conducted hers (with joy and giving.)

She is survived by three sons, Michael McDole, Jack and Virginia McDole, and Dan McDole and Abby Neuhaus; one son-in-law, John Powell; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Powell Protass, Luke Powell, John A. McDole, Spencer McDole, Lee McDole, and Mark McDole; and three great-grandchildren, Berit Powell, Kane Powell, and Ruthy Protass.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Carole Powell; one daughter-in-law, Janet McDole; one sister, Mary Hughes; and three brothers, Bill, Ray, and Gene Foley.

Opal I. Strotheide, 87, of Highland, died on Wed., December 26, 2007 at her residence in Highland.

She was born on June 9, 1920 in Highland, the daughter of the late Leo W. Iberg and the late Dorothy M. (Young) Iberg.

She married Laverne Elmer Strotheide on September 18, 1946 in E&R Church in Highland, and he survives.

She was born at Highland; grew up in Highland and graduated from Highland High School in 1938. She worked at Moulton-Bartley Shoe Factory, East End Mercantile Store and had been a checker at the IGA Supermarket. For a period of time, she and her husband were custodians at their church. She enjoyed cooking, dancing (Polka); she and her husband travelled extensively (50 states and Europe); flowers; her dogs; she was close to her family and a great role-model for them. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, where she was both baptized and confirmed; and a member of Women’s Guild of the church.

She is survived by her husband, Laverne E. Strotheide of Highland; three daughters, Diana L. Osterwisch and her husband, Dennis of Highland, Connie J. Colloton of Saint Louis, Mo., Debra S. Garves and her husband, Michael of O’Fallon, Ill.; five granddaughters, Amy L. Kreher and her husband, Andy of Troy, Ill., Laura B. Myers and her husband, Gabe of Normal, Ill., Jenna N. Delmar D. Grotefendt, 78, of Marine, died on Wed., December 26, 2007 at Forest Park Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo.

He was born on October 25, 1929 in Marine, the son of the late Elmer Grotefendt and the late Cornelia (Hobein) Grotefendt.

He married Madelyn Carol Gotway on October 25, 1958 in Murphysboro, Ill., and she survives.

Born in Marine, he attended Country School in Marine and then graduated from Highland High School. He attended Mckendrie College and University of Illinois. After college, he returned home and farmed on the Grotefendt Family Farm. He retired in 2002. Delmar enjoyed restoring antique tractors, bowling and showing his antique car in parades. He also had a fondness for International Harvester tractors. He was a member of Marine United Church of Christ; a former Marine UCC Council Member; a Farm Bureau Board Member; a Madison Service Company Board Member for 28 years; and a member of Granite City Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Madelyn C. Grotefendt of Marine; two daughters, Sabrina A. Bowling and her husband, Jim of Edwardsville and Shari L. Smugala and his wife, Tom of Columbia, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Emily Bowling, Aaron Bowling, Jordan Smugala, Samantha Smugala, and Nicole Smugala of Marine.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Grotefendt; and his mother, Cornelia (Hobein) Grotefendt.

Neoma L. Hedtkamp

Neoma L. Hedtkamp, 81, of Highland, died on Thurs., December 20, 2007 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland.

She was born on March 19, 1926 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Martin P. Bollwerk and the late Elsie (Meyer) Bollwerk.

She married Victor W. Hedtkamp on November 18, 1950 in Pocahontas, Ark., and he preceded her in death on October 14, 1996.

Born at St. Louis, Mo.; 3701 Bamberger Street. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1944. She worked as a secretary for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years, retiring in January 1975. In 1976, she and her husband moved to Salem, Mo. In April 1997, five months after her husband’s death, she moved to Highland. She enjoyed swimming, singing at church and school, bowling, sewing, and cooking. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland.

She is survived by her nephew, Richard R. Lewis of Kirkwood, Mo.

Victor V. Kernich

Victor V. Kernich, 84, of Mt. Olive, died on Fri., December 21, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

He was born on September 3, 1923 in White City, Ill., the son of the late Nick Kernich and the late Ella (Madisch) Kernich.

He married Alberta Dobrinick on October 13, 1945 at Immanual Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive by Reverend Edward Widenhoefer, and she survived.

He attended schools in White City and Mt. Olive and graduated from Tracy High School in Tracy, Minn. and Rubican Business College in St. Louis, Mo.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. He was an usher for over 20 years at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto and a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League and the Rotary Club. He also held numerous church offices throughout his life.

He began his career in insurance as an office boy for John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company. After receiving his license, his insurance career spanned over 60 years. He held positions for District Manager and General Agent. He and his wife, Alberta established their own insurance company, V. V. Kernich and Associates.

He was a member of Mt. Olive School Board; a charter member of Mt. Olive Lions Club; and a Scouts Cubmaster. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing. He loved attending his granddaughters’s sporting events and was a fan of the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta Dobrinick Kernich of Mt. Olive; two sons, David Kernich and his wife, Donna of Mt. Olive and Brian Kernich and his wife, Peggy of Mt. Olive; five grandchildren, Dana, Dawn, Krystina, Courtney, and Rachel Kernich, all of Mt. Olive also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Ella Kernich; one son, James Kernich; one brother, George Kernich; and four sisters, Evelyn Csolak, Millie Iivancich, Ann Miller, and Rose Kalafatich.

Visitation was held on Sat., December 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. Funeral services were held on Sun., December 23 at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive with Rev. Dan Barbey and Rev. Willard Meyer officiating. The eulogy was given by his son, David Kernich. Burial was held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Mt. Olive. His granddaughters, Dana and Dawn Kernich, Mowry Falk, Gene Helkamp, Chuck Cruthis, Joe Rimar, Charles Dobrinick, LaVern Miller, and Damian Parker served as pallbearers during the service. Estell Bernard Boone, 96, of Gillespie, died on Mon., December 24, 2007 at Litchfield Health Care Center in Litchfield.

She was born on December 28, 1910 in Donnellson, Ill., the daughter of the late Ioda G. Boone and the late Eva (Wilson) Boone.

She married Myrtle (Kahl) Boone, and he preceded her in death in May 1975.

She was a retired factory worker in Olin Corp. in East Alton, Ill.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Walker of Gillespie; two grandchildren, Susan Suvi and her husband, William "Mano" Suvi of Gillespie and Harold "Mike" Walker of Gillespie; two nieces, Carolyn Freese of Seattle, Wash., and Jeanne Boone of Kansas City, Mo.; and her nephew, Mike Boone of Seattle, Wash.

John Dee Whitson Sr., 79, of Hutsonville, Ill., died on Mon., December 3, 2007 at his residence in Hutsonville, Ill.

He was born on April 22, 1928 in Calmor Belle Co., Ky., the son of the late Wiley Frank Whitson and the late Dora Kathleen (Eagle) Whitson.

He married Eva Vernadine Gipson and she preceded him in death.

He was a retired plumber and worked in the construction industry. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman.

He is survived by his son, John D. Whitson Jr. of Loxahatchee Fla.; his daughter, Cynthia Diane Maggio of Annapolis, Md.; three grandchildren, John Michael Maggio, Michelle Catherine Maggio, and Ryan Michael Maggio; three great-grandchildren, Chase Allen Maggio, Austin Michael Maggio, and Olivia Marie Maggio; two sisters, Vada "Nettie" Warf of Corrine, W. Va. and Ruth Anderson of Mullens, W. Va.; and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Rife of Wilsonville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse; his brothers, Paul, Robert and Frank Whitson; and his sisters, Violet Barrett, Fannie Dunford, and Margaret Whitson.

Mabel A. Helmkamp

Mabel A. Helmkamp, 93, of Bunker Hill, died on Tues., December 25, 2007 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

She was born on August 9, 1914 in Edwardsville, Ill., the daughter of the late Fred and Louise (Westerhold) Klopmeier.

She married Ralph H. Helmkamp on September 1, 1934 in Edwardsville, and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1996.

She was a homemaker in her home for many years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill and a member of Ladies of Zion.

She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Louise and Gerald Weidner of Bunker Hill, Janet Gillis of Godfrey, Arlene and Ralph Hall of Wood River, and Phyllis and John Robinson of Bunker Hill; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Marie Helmkamp of Bethalto; and her brother and sister-in-law, Darl and Mary Klopmeier of Worden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her step-mother, Hilda Klopmeier; one son-in-law, Edward Gillis; her brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Irma Klopmeier; one granddaughter, Amy Robinson; and one great-grandson, Wyatt Robinson.

Margaret I. Maddalon

Margaret I. Maddalon, 85, of Staunton, died on Sun., December 23, 2007 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.

She was born on May 25, 1922 in Gillespie, the daughter of the late John Walter Hughes and the late Rose Ella (Lamb) Hughes.

She married Dave (Johnny) Maddalon on February 13, 1943 and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1982.

She was a waitress at The Gardens Restaurant in Litchfield for over 30 years.

She is survived by one son, Richard Maddalon and his wife, Susan of Davenport, Fla.; one daughter, Eileen Felkner of St. Joseph, Ill.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Pitchford of Girard, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Adrian Kenneth Fritzsche Sr.

Adrian Kenneth Fritzsche Sr., 80, of Mt. Olive, died on Tues., December 25, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

He was born on February 13, 1927 in Mt. Olive, the son of the late Carl Fritzsche and the late Emma (Boehme) Fritzsche.

He married Christine Elizabeth (Sweeney) Fritzsche on May 24, 1948, and she survives.

He attended Mt. Olive schools and graduated from Mt. Olive High School. He entered the Navy as a SeaBee during World War II. He was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Mt. Olive and a member of Knights of Columbus Father Knaperak Council #8716. He worked at A.O. Smith in Granite City, Ill. for 28 years, and worked for the City of Mt. Olive Street Department until he retired in 1995. He loved gardening and carpentry.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Elizabeth Fritzsche of Mt. Olive; seven daughters, Carol Hopkins and her husband, Joe of Springfield, Kathleen Keating and her husband, Jim of Springfield, Joan Bilyeu of Carlinville, Jeanne Johnson of Carlinville, Catherine Doyle and her husband, Joe of St. Louis, Debra Lydon and her husband, Chris of Schaumburg, Ill., and Diane Lorenzen and her husband, Rick of Doylestown, Ohio; five sons, Adrian Kenneth Fritzsche Jr. and his wife, Suzanne of Auburn, Ill., Dennis Fritzsche and his wife, Sally of Athens, Ill., Tim Fritzsche and his wife, Jan of Edwardsville, Kevin Fritzsche and his wife, Julie of Mt. Alfred E. Culp

Alfred E. Culp, 82, of Highland, died on Sat., December 22, 2007 at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born on November 26, 1925 in Sawyerville, the son of the late Thomas Earl Culp and the late Clovia E. (Lazenby) Culp.

He married Joan Catherine Olmsted on December 20, 1947 in Gillespie, and she survives.

He was born at Sawyerville, Ill.; graduated from Gillespie High School. He had worked at Shell Oil Company in Wood River for over 33 years, retiring in March of 1986. Prior to his retirement, he had been Senior Inspector in the Engineering Services Department. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II with duty in the Pacific aboard a troop carrier. He and his wife had made Highland their home since 1977, they had previously lived in Springfield, Gillespie and Staunton. In his retirement, he enjoyed travelling and playing golf. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He was a member of VFW Post #5694–Highland; a member of Helveteia Sharpshooters Society-Highland; a former member of Highland Lodge 583 AF & AM; and a former member of Highland Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Joan C. (Olmsted) Culp of Highland; four sons, Alan E. Culp and his wife, Becky of O’Fallon, Ill., Martin M. Culp and his wife, Anne of Edwardsville, Ill., Leland E. Culp and his wife, Marti of Gillespie, and Steven P. Culp of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Janice L. Culp of Mesa, Ariz. and Christine D. Sumner of Highland; his sister, Thelma A. Elvers (twin to Wilma) of Gillespie; his brother, Clyde K. Culp and his wife, Leona of Peoria, Ill.; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Earl Culp; his mother, Clovia Estelle (Lazenby) Culp; and three sisters, Gladys L. Culp, Wilma I. Haney (twin to Thelma) and Marie Culp, who was a stillborn.

Harold J. Meyer

Harold J. Meyer, 81, of Highland, died on Thurs., December 27, 2007 at Highland Health Care Center in Highland.

He was born on April 30, 1926 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late John Meyer and the late Julia (Breier) Meyer.

He married Ann M. Wiesler on August 8, 1947 in St. Louis, Mo., and she survives.

He was born in St. Louis and grew up there. He served seven years with the U.S. Coast Guard and four years with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Casper for much of his duty. He returned to St. Louis and worked as a dock hand and became foreman and plant manager at Roadway Express, then for Consolidated Frieghtway. He then worked in the oil fields and then for five years as a janitor for Centralia Methodist Church. He and his wife moved to Highland in February 2006. He enjoyed cooking, wood working, oil painting, gardening (vegetables and flowers) and bird watching.

He is survived by his wife, Ann M. (Wiesler) Meyer of Highland; three daughters, Sharon A. Jockish and her husband, Robert of Imperial, Mo., Patrica S. Pridemore of Beckemeyer, Ill., and Deborah L. Meyer of Nashville, Ill.; three sons, Gary E. Meyer of Edwardsville, Michael S. Meyer and his wife, Trudi of Mt. Erie, Ill., and Harold J. Edwin Otte Baule, 88, of Staunton, died on Fri., October 19, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.

He was born on July 23, 1919 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of the late Otto Herman Baule and the late Meta Silvia (Finger) Baule.

He married the late Eileen Estella Baule on September 11, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo., and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2000.

He was self-employed in electronics repair in St. Louis, Mo. He was a member of East Side Computer Club. He was a member of the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Meta Silvia (Finger) Baule; and his wife, Eileen Estella Baule, who died on December 7, 2000.

Frank Raymond Busonic Sr.

Frank Raymond Busonic Sr., 82, of Mt. Olive, died on Wed., December 12, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

He was born on March 25, 1925 in Mt. Olive, the son of the late Mike Busonic Sr. and the late Verona (Kozak) Busonic.

He married Bernadine Elizabeth Lebeda on July 1, 1950 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Mt. Olive.

He was a welder and a shop steward for A.O. Smith for 28 years until his retirement. He was a member of the United States Navy during World War II; a member of Mt. Olive VFW Post 5790; a member of the Mt. Olive Knights of Columbus; and a member of Father Knaperak Council #8716. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing and was an avid Cub fan.

He is survived by his son, Frank Busonic Jr. of Mt. Olive; two sisters, Verona Kalvin of Mt. Olive and Margaret Ban of St. Louis, Mo.; many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Verona (Kozak) Busonic Sr.; his wife, Bernadine Busonic, who died on October 18, 2004; four brothers, Joe, Steve, Mike Jr., and George Busonic; and four sisters, Marie Mateja, Helen Sullivan, Annabelle Zippay, and Elizabeth Sanders.

Leona Frances Magdich

Leona Frances Magdich, 92, of Mt. Olive, died on Sun., December 9 at Faith Countryside Home in Highland.

She was born on August 7, 1915 in Mexico, Mo., the daughter of the late John Roe and the late Mae Frances (Lander) Roe.

She married Peter Stephen Magdich on May 12, 1946 at St. Francis Xavier Church in St. Louis, Mo., and he survives.

She attended schools in Mexico, Mo., and graduated from Mexico High School with the Class of 1933. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Olive; a member of the church choir; a member of the funeral lunch committee; and a member of United Methodist Women. She loved to play Pinochle and Square Dancing. She was a homemaker and at one time, taught at St. Martin of Tours in Washington Park, Ill.

She is survived by her husband, Peter Stephen Magdich of Highland; one son, Stephen Magdich and his wife, Patricia of New Braunfels, Texas; three daughters, Mary Lee Wilson and her husband, Roger of St. Louis, Mo., Judy Chapman of Fenton, Mo., and Patricia Mayfield and her husband, Larry of Lebanon, Ill.; one sister, Fonceile Clark of Monroe City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mae Frances (Lander) Roe.

Rosetta J. Kilgore

Rosetta J. Kilgore, 89, of Wilsonville, Ill., died on Thurs., December 13, 2007 at her residence.

She was born on August 27, 1918 in Virden, Ill., the daughter of the late Lawrence Perino and the late Margaret (Cerutti) Perino.

She married the late James Kilgore on July 6, 1940 in Mt. Olive, Ill., and he preceded her in death on October 16, 1993.

She was a homemaker in her home for many years.

She is survived by her sister, Pauline Cerutti of Boston, Mass.; two nieces, Kim Cleveland and Jamelle Overby; four cousins, Dave DeLaurent, Denise DeLaurent, Renee DeLaurent, and Marc DeLaurent; Ed Mickelson and Joan Steinmeyer also survive.

Visitation was held on Sat., December 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home. Edward G. Yann

Edward G. Yann, Jr., 85, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at 3:20 p.m. at the Faith Care Center/ Faith Countryside Home in Highland.

Born January 18, 1922 in St. Jacob Ill., he was the son of the late Edward G Yann and the late Marie Mina (Leder) Yann.

He married Lucille Lillian Witschie on November 21, 1942 at St. Jacob E and R Church, and she survives.

He is also survived by a daughter Marilyn Ann (husband Mark) Cron of St. Jacob, a son Donald E (wife Audrey) Yann of Troy, Ill., and three granddaughters, Megan A Cron of St Jacob, Kathryn E Yann and Rachel A Yann of Troy.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and a sister, Virginia Ashmann.

Edward was a member of St. Jacob United Church of Christ, on the board of directors, 18 years on the church council; Church Brotherhood; The St. Jacob Grange; YPCO at the church (Youth Peoples Christian Organization); FFA (Future Farmers of America); Charter member of the St. Jacob Lion’s Club, Lion of the year, Lion’s Foundation Fellow (twice); St. Jacob Volunteer Firemen for 20 years; trustee for 15 years; former St. Jacob Township Trustee.

Born at St. Jacob, Ill., a 1939 graduate of Highland High School Mr. Yann farmed most of his life, he owned and operated a dairy, grain and livestock farm south of St. Jacob, he retired in 1985. He also worked on the Railroad; Broadway Tire and Battery in the winter, a radiator factory in Edwardsville.

He loved playing cards; was active in the community; and volunteered at his church and in the community of St. Jacob.

William E. Smart

Rev. William E. Smart, 74, went to be with the Lord at 5:30 a.m., Thurs. Dec.13, 2007 at with his family at his side.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1932 in Piggott, Ark., the son of James O. and Ethel (Allen) Smart.

He married the former Nancy Burns on May 11, 1973 in Columbia, Mo. and she survives.

He attended elementary school in Ark. and then graduated from Alton High School in 1951. He received his B.A. in 1956 from Warner Pacific in Portland, Ore. In 1962 he received his A B from McKendree College, in 1965 he received his Bachelor of Divinity from Eden Seminary, in 1968 he received his Master of Divinity and in 1969 and 1970 he obtained his Pittsburgh Pastoral Institute Certificate. He pastored in Ore., Ill., Pa., Mo., Ind., Ala., N.D., Kan., and Iowa and sang in Gospel Echoes Quartet-KBOA Station in Kennett, Mo.

He also taught 6th grade at Horace Mann Elementary in Alton from 1957 to 1962.

He loved beekeeping and gardening for hobbies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rev. Kerry Smart and Rev. Jane Kropa of Fleetwood, Pa., James Braniff of St. Louis, Mo, Joshua and Tiffany Smart of Salisbury, N.C., and two daughters and a son-in-law Joshanna & Chet Stone of Topeka, Kan., and Eowyn Smart of Alton. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law and their wives Timothy & Lynne Burns and Patrick and Pamela Burns. He is survived by seven grandchildren Devin Kropa-Smart, Eve Kropa-Smart, Adele Kropa-Smart, Alexandria Scearse, Josephine Smart, Samantha Smart and Danielle Smart. He is survived by eleven nieces and nephews Rosjean Custer, Chris Well, Tawnya Strebler, Roxanne Shaw, Michael Kelly, Todd Kelly, Michelle Burns, Katelyn Burns, Allan Burns, Joe Burns and Claire Burns. He is survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law Melba Pritchard of Wood River, Armenda & Paul Draper of Wood River, Rosa Lee Well of Brighton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Mary Joyce and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph and Judith Burns.

Visitation Monday Dec. 17, 2007 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton with memorial services following at 1 p.m. with Rev. Allyn Walker and Rev. John Tennyson.

Rev. William Henry Waddell

Rev. William "Bill" Henry Waddell, age 68, went to be with the Lord at 8:48 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007, at Willow Rose Nursing Home in Jerseyville, IL.

He was born in Belo-Horizonte, Brazil where his parents were missionaries, on October 30, 1939, the son of the Rev. Richard L. & Margaret G. Waddell.

While as a young child, Bill lived with his parents and older brother, Richard, in the Northeast part of Brazil in Bahia. Later the family moved to Sao Paulo where Bill attended school through the tenth grade.

On coming to the United States, Bill finished high school at Stoneybrook, New York, and earned a BA Degree at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. He then entered the Army and served three years as a chaplain’s assistant in West Germany.

On returning from Germany, he worked for the County of San Diego in California, and while in graduate school met and married Mary Tooke Ingalls on December 27, 1969 in Framingham, Massachusetts. She survives.

He then accepted a social work position in Fallon, Nevada, earned his Master’s in Social Work at Arizona State University and worked eleven years as a Psychiatric Social Worker in Moses Lake Washington State. In 1991, he graduated from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa with a Masters in Divinity and has served as an ordained Presbyterian Pastor in Ipava, Illinois, Watford City, North Dakota, and Alton, IL. He was honorably retired on November 30, 2002.

He was a member of the Lovejoy Society, the Presbytery of Giddings – Lovejoy, and a member of the National Association of Social Workers – A.C.S.W.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Richard & Shirley Waddell of Farmington, Maine, one nephew, Christopher Waddell, of New York City, two cousins, Laura Swicker of Westfield, New Jersey, and Martha Olson of Sutter Creek, California.

In celebration of his life, the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday December 17, 2007 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday December 18, 2007 at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton with Rev. George Humbert, Rev. Charles Hoekstra, and Rev. Richard Waddell officiating.

Burial will follow at a family ceremony in Rhode Island.

Erma Dean Masterson

Erma Dean Masterson, age 82 left this earth and took up residence in Heaven at 3:39 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007 at her home with her family by her side. She was under the care of BJC Hospice.

She was born on July 12, 1925 in Harrisburg, IL, the daughter of Bert and Dola (York) Dorris.

She married Willie Masterson on December 7, 1944 in Bethalto. He preceded her in death in 1973.

Erma lived in Cottage Hills since she was 17 years old. She worked for several years at Owens Illinois Glass Works but most of her life she was a homemaker. She was a member of New Testament Fellowship Church in Alton. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. She had a giving heart and was always helping someone with cooking or cleaning, chauffeuring or mending. She knew how to do anything, make any household repairs even if it was with a piece of string, rubber band or some other imaginative idea. She made Barbie Doll clothes that were better than any you could buy in the store. She loved to travel when she was in better health and she visited Hawaii, North Carolina, Texas, California and Mexico many times. She loved going to church and going out to eat. Anytime there was a family get together or an outing, she was the center of it all.

She is survived by 5 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Betty Reno of South Roxana, Velda & Jack Taylor of Granite City, Bonnie Robinson of Riverside, CA, Judy & Ross Bunting of Hendersonville, NC, and Sandy McCarthy of Godfrey; grandchildren, David Hall, Michael Hall, Tami Layton, Brad Taylor, Jay Taylor, Tim Bunting, Debbie Wiley, Barbara Easter, Lori Pulliam, Scott Masterson, Jeff Masterson, Bobbie Reese, Crystal Masterson, Corey Masterson, Mari Beth Carstens and Ryan McCarthy; 22 great grandchildren, Christopher, Mike, Courtney, Crystal, Sarah, Luke, Jake, Brianna, Brooke, Jessica, Brandy, Rae Ann, Misty, Amanda, Abbi, Zach, Connor, Gracie, Shayna, McKenzie, Shawna and Jonathan; and 11 great great grandchildren.

Roger M. Price

Roger M. Price, 45, of Highland, died on Sat., December 15, 2007 at his residence in Highland.

He was born on March 19, 1962 in East St. Louis, Ill., the son of the late Ray E. Price and the late Dorothy I. (Perkins) Price.

He was divorced.

Born in 1962 in E. St. Louis; in 1966, he moved to Highland; he was a graduate of H.H.S in 1980; after his marriage he lived in Arizona while he was in the Air Force motor pool. After service, he returned to Highland; he lived in Alhambra, then Willisville. In 2004, he returned to Highland. He worked in construction all his life. He enjoyed racing (both dirt track and NASCAR); he ran a push car at Highland Speedway. He enjoyed watching professional bull riding and camping at Kincade River. He collected old coins. He was a member of Highland Southern Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy I. (Perkins) Price of Highland; two daughters, Rachel M. Finley and her husband, Anthony Finley Sr. of Alhambra and Riva M. Weiss and her husband, Justin of Highland; her son, Pvt. Ronald S. Price, U.S. Army and his wife, Jennifer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Anthony M. Finley Jr. of Alhambra, Alexis M. Finley of Alhambra, Emma I. Price of Highland and Wyatt C. Weiss of Highland; his sister, Sandra K. Harpstrite and her husband, R. Edward of Trenton; four brothers, Charles R. Price and his wife, Joan of Alton, David P. Price and his wife, Carol of Alhambra, Ronald G. Price and his wife, Cindy of New Douglas, and Darren J. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Evers Price, who died on December 27, 1980; two sons, Robert M. Price and Ray C. Price, two twins who were stillborn in 1982; and his brother, Stanley V. Price, who died on August 11, 1976.

Margaret Josephine Louise Schafer Link

Margaret Josephine Louise Schafer Link, 83, of Staunton, died on December 6, 2007.

She was born on April 16, 1924.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Parish and was proud that each of her children began their education at St. Michael’s School. She was an excellent cook and preferred feeding dozens to eating alone. There was always room for one more and always dessert. She was an avid gardener, could pull weeds for sport, a tennis player with an inimitable style, and a mother and grandmother like no other.

She had style and grace and made her world - the world of friends and family - a better place. She and Albert are now dancing with the stars.

She is survived by her nine children, 27 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The children and their spouses are as follows: David and Kathleen Link, Jacquelyn and Tom Dezort, Susan and Herman Van Sickle, Michael Link, Steven and Deb Link, Mary and Robert La Rose, Elizabeth Link and Michael Joslyn, Sarah and Dave Suhrenbrock, and Richard and Mary Jo Link.

She is also survived by her twin sister, Marcella Pipkin, and her brother, Richard Schafer, as well as her sisters-in-law, Jane Schafer, Mary Margaret Link, and Norma Link, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Link; three sisters, Ernestine Schafer, Clarisse Maher and Louise Tobin; and two brothers, Joseph and Robert Schafer.

Diana L. Struckhoff

Diana L. Struckhoff, 59, of Collinsville, died on Sat., December 8, 2007 at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

She was born on January 31, 1948 in Centralia, Ill., the daughter of the late Carl F. Backmeyer and the late Bernice R. Hendricks.

She married Charles William "Chuck" Struckhoff on August 22, 1980 in Edwardsville, Ill., and he survives.

She was self-employed as a beautician and worked in a beauty shop. She was born at Centralia, Ill.; she grew up in Okawville, and graduated from Okawville High School in 1966. She worked at a nursing home in Okawville while attending beauty college in Centralia, Ill. She moved to Highland in 1971 and worked at Beauty Mart.

She opened her own shop, Hairworks, in Highland a few years later. She and her husband moved to Collinsville, Ill. in 1999; she retired several years later. She loved to dance; she and her husband enjoyed a cabin on the river at Nutwood, Ill.; they enjoyed boat-riding on the river. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her dog, "Buddy" (a shiatsu) was her constant companion.

She is survived by her mother, Bernice Ruth Hendricks of Centralia; her husband, Charles W. "Chuck" Struckhoff of Collinsville, Ill.; her daughter, Charlynn Struckhoff and her fiance, Frank R. Presley of Memphis, Tenn.; two step-daughters, Sherry R. Lutman of Collinsville, Ill. and Susan A. Cockran and her husband, Kevin of Granite City, Ill.; her step-son, Steven C. Struckhoff and his wife, Angela of Saint Jacob, Ill.; six step-grandchildren, Eric Lutman of Collinsville, Jessica Struckhoff of Saint Jacob, Kohl Struckhoff of Saint Jacob, Kimberly Lutman of Collinsville, Michael Lutman of Collinsville, and Grant Struckhoff of St. Jacob; her brother, Gary Backsmeyer and his wife, Jane of St. Louis, Mo., and her sister, Candy Hoffman and her husband, Craig of Carlyle, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Frederick Backsmeyer; her sister, Peggy Hacksteadt, who died at the age of 56; and her brother, Gregory Backsmeyer, who died at the age of 41.

Mary M. Pfister

Mary M. Pfister, 81, of Highland, died on Wed., December 5, 2007 at her residence in Highland.

She was born on August 7, 1926 in Aviston, the daughter of the late Eugene Gerstner and Ruth (Jaske) Gerstner.

She married Milton J. Pfister on May 31, 1946 in Piggot, Ark., and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1973.

Born at Aviston, Ill., she grew up at Aviston, Lebanon, and Frogtown, Ill., where her grandfather owned and operated a tavern and dance hall - Jaske’s Tavern. Following her marriage, they lived at Sebastopol, where she and her husband operated Pfister Trucking Company. She retired from the trucking company in 1985. She enjoyed bingo, going to the boat, trips to Florida and Las Vegas, and dancing at Albers, Breese and Highland, following the Twilighters Band.

She is survived by her son, Milton John Pfister Jr. and his wife, Diane of Highland; her grandson, John Wayne Pfister and his wife, Jennifer of Highland; three great-granddaughters, Molli Pfister of Highland, Maci Pfister of Highland, and Maggie Pfister of Highland; her dear companion, Ralph E. Goestenkors (of 32 years) of Highland; her brother, John W. Gerstner and his wife, Carla of Tampa, Fla., and her sister-in-law, Carol J. Gerstner of Belleville, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Gerstner; her mother, Ruth Gerstner; her husband, Milton J. Pfister, who died on March 12, 1973; her brother, Eugene Gerstner; her sister, Alice Zeisset; and her brother-in-law, Lawrence "Fox" Zeisset.

Louis W. Hess

Louis W. Hess, 82, of Highland, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland.

He was born on December 14, 1924 in Saint Jacob, Ill., the son of the late William Hess and the late Theresa J. (Strubhart) Hess.

He married Janette Ann Buckmiller on October 4, 1951 in Highland, and she survives.

He was born in St. Jacob and grew up on the farm where Mick’s Lake is. He attended St. Paul School. He joined the U.S. Army, and was attached to the 143rd Infantry Division. He toured North Africa, Italy, France and was wounded 20 miles from the German border, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He spent 18 months in an Army Hospital. After his discharge he worked at Highland Machine until November of 1989 and worked at the Highland VFW until his health forced him to retire. Louis was a life long #1 Cubs fan. He served in the U.S. Army from April 6, 1943 to March 20, 1946. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland; a charter member of Highland VFW #5694; and a former president of Board of Directors.

He is survived by his wife, Janette A. (Buchmiller) Hess of Highland; his daughter, Karla H. Smith and her husband, Ronald of Highland; his son, Kurt W. Hess of Pocahontas, Ill.; his grandson, Jason K. Smith and his wife, Christie of Highland; his great-grandchild, Jennifer Gerwel of Highland, Ill.; four brothers, Lawrence Hess of Chesapeake, Va., Anthony Hess of Fullerton, Calif., Alvin Hess and his wife, Joanne of Las Vegas, Nev., Paul Hess of Godfrey, three sisters, Esther Reddinger of Kansas City, Mo., Loretta Marti of Highland, and Dorothy Tanner and her husband, John of Baldwin, Mich.; his brother-in-law, Don Buchmiller of Highland; many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Hess, who died on February 24, 1960; his mother, Theresa J. (Strubhart) Hess, who died on June 27, 1955; and his sister, Marcella Widlun.

Lois Ann Keck

Lois Ann Keck, 75, of Gillespie, died on Thurs., December 6, 2007 at her residence.

She was born on Wed., May 4, 1932 in Gillespie, the daughter of the late Vernie Hopper and the late Kathleen (McFarlan) Hopper.

She married the late Richard A. Keck on September 8, 1966 in Memphis, Tenn., and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1991.

She was a graduate of Gillespie High School Class of 1949. She was a retired police dispatcher for the City of Gillespie.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacey Keck of Gillespie; her brother, William Hopper of Gillespie; and her sister, Dorothy Bone of Alta Loma, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; two brothers, James L. Hopper and Richard W. "Gus" Hopper.

R. Derek Rauzi

R. Derek Rauzi, 23, of Gillespie, died on Sun., December 9, 2007 on Rt. 4 0.4 miles north of Lamb Rd., Olive Twp., Illinois.

He was born on December 20, 1983 in Litchfield, the son of Robert F. Rauzi and the late Elizabeth Skeldon.

He was a carpenter and worked in construction. He was a graduate of Gillespie High School Class of 2002. He completed four years of Carpentry Apprenticeship. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 295 of Edwardsville.

He is survived by his father, Robert Rauzi of Gillespie; his step-mother, Deb Rauzi of Gillespie; his brother, Matthew Rauzi of Gillespie; his sister, Hollie Trettenero and her husband, T.J. of Hamel; his step-brother and his wife, Jason and Clara Robinson of Perryville, Mo.; his step-sister and her husband, Trisha and Jon Simmons of Benld; his maternal grandmother, Betty Skeldon of Gillespie; his paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Maxvill of Gillespie; and his special friend, Ady Cope of Gillespie.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth "Beth" Skeldon; his maternal grandfather, Lester Skeldon; and his paternal grandfather, Francis Rauzi.

Funeral services will be held on Thurs., December 13 at 10:30 a.m. at SS Simon & Jude Church in Gillespie with Monsignor Larry Auda officiating. Jonathan Scott Bultema

Jonathan Scott Bultema, 25, of Gillespie, died on Sun., December 9, 2007 at IL Rt. 4 0.4 miles north of Lamb Rd., Olive Twp., Ill.

He was born on January 7, 1982 in Litchfield, the son of Jonnie Bultema and Sandra Renee Hyde.

He was an iron worker for Local 396 in St. Louis, Mo.

He is survived by his father, Jonnie Bultema of Gillespie; his mother, Sandra Hyde of Gillespie; his grandparents, Jay and Lorraine Hyde of Gillespie; his brother, Layne Withers of Gillespie; and his special friend, Ashley Vesper of Staunton.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Beverly Bultema.

Violet Mae Byots

Violet Mae Byots, 82, of Mt. Olive, died on Mon., December 3, 2007 at Delmar Gardens West in Chesterfield, Mo.

She was born on April 26, 1925 in Mt. Olive, Ill., the son of the late Elmer Milcic Sr. and the late Mary Ann Yurkovich.

She married the late John Byots Jr. on June 29, 1946 at Church of the Ascension in Mt. Olive, and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1957.

She attended Mt. Olive Grade School and graduated form Mt. Olive High School with the Class of 1943. She attended Church of The Ascension in Mt. Olive.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Altar & Rosary Society; a member of Church Lunch Committee; a member of Croation Lodge; and a member of VFW Auxiliary. She loved reading and crocheting.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia LaRosa and her husband, Lino of Staunton and Jane Walchli of Ballwin, Mo.; one brother, Elmer Milcic Jr. and his wife, Jackie of Mt. Olive; one sister, Betty Hickey and her husband, Larry of Mt. Olive; five grandchildren, Michael LaRosa and his wife, Dana of Staunton, Mia LaRosa of Staunton, Jeffery Walchli and his wife, Michele of St. Peters, Mo., Ryan Walchli and his wife, Sasha of St. Charles, Mo., Erin Walchli of Denver, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Andrea, Brianna, Steven and Grace also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Ann (Yurkovich) Milcic Sr.; her husband, John Byots Jr., who died on December 26, 1957; one sister, Marie Ann Brooks; one brother, Eugene Matthew Milcic; and one son-in-law, Steven Walchli.

No visitation was be held; however, a funeral Mass was held on Wed., December 5 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Ascension in Mt. Olive with Fr. Larry Anschutz as celebrant. Burial was held at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Olive; Michael LaRosa, Ryan Walchli, Jeffrey Walchli, John Milcic, Bill Daly, and Thomas Williams served as pallbearers. A funeral luncheon was held at Ascension Church Hall and was served by the Altar & Rosary Society.

Memorials are suggested to Calvary Cemetery and St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Kathryn S. Schmid

Kathryn S. Schmid, age 63, went to be with the Lord at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, with her family by her side.

She was born on April 6, 1944 in Alton, IL, the daughter of the late James Henry & Frances (Rotter) Stack.

She married Jerry R. Schmid on March 2, 1968 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville, IL. He survives.

Kathryn was employed part time for Father Bob Porter at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bunker Hill as a secretary. She was a past member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bunker Hill and now belongs to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. She loved to travel to Texas with her husband and spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Donna Moutrie of Gillespie,\ and Lisa Schmid of Bunker Hill, one son and daughter-in-law, Matthew & Courtney Schmid of Holiday Shores; four grandchildren, Alexis and Nina Moutrie and Grant and Ryan Schmid; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James Stack Jr. of St. Louis, MO and William & Barbara Stack of South Roxana.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler Officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

MT. OLIVE
Alta Marie Lueker

Alta Marie Lueker, 80, of Mt. Olive, died on Fri., November 30, 2007 at Litchfield Health Care Center in Litchfield.

She was born on October 4, 1927 in Scott County, Ill., the daughter of the late Louis Nortrup and the late Alwine (Meier) Nortrup.

She married Edwin Frederick Lueker on July 30, 1955 in Bluffs, Ill., and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1999.

She attended Bluffs High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. She received her teaching degree from Illinois State University in 1949. She attended Immanual Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive. She taught Home Economics at Mt. Olive High School and later taught at Benld Grade School. She worked with her husband, Edwin on the family farm. She was a member of Lydia Circle and a chairman of the Funeral Lunch Program. She loved cooking, crocheting, and attending craft shows.

She is survived by three sons, Bill Lueker and his wife, Jean of Manchester, Mo., Jim Lueker and his wife, Karen of Mt. Olive, and John Lueker and his wife, Denise of Litchfield; one sister, Helen Winkelman of Arenzville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Emilie, Lauren and Kate Lueker, Randy Lueker, Tim Lueker and his wife, Anna, and Mark Lueker, and Alex and Victoria Lueker; one great-grandchild, Reagan Lueker also survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Lawine (Meier) Nortrup; her husband, Edwin Frederick Lueker, who died on April 27, 1999; and three brothers, Earl, Charles, and Harold Nortrup.

Visitation was held on Sun., December 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. Funeral services were held on Mon., December 3 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive with Rev. Jonathan Bontke officiating. Rev. James Leidholt led the family in prayer before the start of the visitation. Interment was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive. Her grandsons, Alex Lueker, Randy, Tim and Mark Lueker, Jimmy Frizzo, and friends, Dean and Terry Monke served as pallbearers during the funeral services. A funeral lunch was held at Immanual Lutheran Fellowship Hall and was served by the Lydia Circle. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Juvenile Myositis.

Donald E. "Gene" Hansen

Donald E. "Gene" Hansen, 66, died on Tues., November 27, 2007 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

He was born on May 10, 1941 in Fieldon, Ill., the son of the late Joseph J. Hansen and the late Ruby M. (Camerer) Hansen.

He married Carolyn Marie Angelo on September 26, 1964 in St. Joseph Church in Benld, and she survives.

He was born in Fieldon, Ill. He attended Shipman Grade School and Jerseyville High School where he graduated in 1960. He owned and operated Gene Hansen Trucking Co. in Hamel and owned Hamel Oil Products. He also owned De-Ke Car Wash in Hamel. After he sold Hansen Trucking, he continued to work for H. Trucking in Granite City. After retirement, he worked as a courier at First National Bank in Staunton. He loved to work in his backyard. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton; a member of Staunton Knights of Columbus; and a member of Hamel Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn M. (Angelo) Hansen of Hamel; two daughters, Deneen A. Helfrich and her husband, Timothy of Shiloh, Ill. and Kerry J. Wingham and her husband, Gary of Hamilton, Ohio; his sister, Judy Inman and her husband, Jim of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Andrew J. Wingham, Fallon E. Helfrich, and Lauren M. Helfrich also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J. Hansen; his mother, Ruby M. (Camerer) Hansen; six brothers, Joseph J. Hansen Jr., Richard Hansen, William Hansen, Daniel Hansen, and two in infancy; and one sister, Marjorie Christopher.

Visitation was held on Fri., November 30 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra. Visitation continued on Sat., December 1 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra.

Dorothy Ann Hecko

Dorothy Ann Hecko, 87, of Collinsville, died on Sun., December 2, 2007 at her residence in Collinville.

She was born on October 1, 1920 in Livingston, the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Lukasic) Papa.

She married Frank J. Hecko on November 21, 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston, and he survives.

She was a homemaker in her home for many years. She was a member of Saints Peters & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Ill.; and a member of Croation Fraternal Society.

She is survived by her husband, Frank J. Hecko of Collinsville; one daughter, Susanne Anderson and her husband, Lawrence of Edwardsville; two grandchildren, Steven M. Anderson and his wife, Tina and Sarah E. Wallace and her husband, Scott, all of Collinsville; four great-grandchildren, Amber M. Anders, Carrie M. Wallace, Paige E. Anderson, and Joshua M. Wallace; two nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Mary Ellen Hecko in infancy and Robert Hecko in his youth; two brothers, Stephen Papa Jr. and Mike Papa; and three sisters, Ann Vinsavich, Mary Papa and Emma Papa in their youth.

HIGHLAND

Robert H. Rochell

Robert H. Rochell, 90, of Highland, died on Tues., November 27, 2007 at Highland Health Care Center in Highland.

He was born on December 7, 1916 in Lebanon, Ill., the son of the late Herman Rochell and the late Elizabeth (Quitmeyer) Rochell.

He married Velma Margaret Dressel on January 20, 1951 in Lebanon, and she preceded him in death on June 30, 1998.

He was born on the family farm north of Lebanon, Ill., just east of IL Route 4. He grew up there. He had worked on the farm, helping his parents. During World War II, Bob served with the U.S. Army, with duty in Naples, and Rome, Italy; southern France, Germany and Sicily. He was awarded the Purple Heart, European/African/Middle Eastern Ribbon; a Silver Battle Star and 4 Overseas Service Bars. He was wounded at Anzio, Italy. (Total Service from April 21, 1941-June 5, 1945.) After his return home, he farmed with his brothers, labored for a few years, worked at the O’Fallon Dairy and then started work as a plumber. He had worked for Essenpreis Plumbing in Highland and then at Brefeld Plumbing in Trenton, Ill. until his retirement. He also opered a hog and grain farm; and had also operated his wife’s family farm (the Dressell Farm) north of Lebanon.

Bob was always active and has at one time served as the gravedigger for the Trenton Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Rochell moved to Highland in 1979.

In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, "tinkering," helping his wife with a big garden, growing flowers and being with his family. He had built a pool table for his grandsons, cabinets for his granddaughter and a stroller for his grandchildren when they were young.

He is survived by three daughters, Grace A. Zobrist Cherry of Highland, Linda S. Iberg and her husband, Richard of Highland, Susan L. McClanahan and her husband, Dennis of Highland; his sisters, Edna Smith and her husband, Carl of Lebanon; his sister-in-law, Aleta Dressel of O’Fallon; four grandchildren, Lee A. Zobrist and his wife, Stacy of Sunset Hills, Mo., Robert R. "Rob" Iberg of Orlando, Fla., Laura A. Iberg of Highland, and Bryan M. McClanahan of Highland; one great-grandchild, Cole Allen Zobrist of Sunset Hills, Mo.; many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Rochell; his mother, Elizabeth (Quitmeyer) Rochell; his wife, Velma Margaret (Dressel) Rochell, who died on June 30, 1998; two brothers, Herman and Edward Rochell; his sister, Viola Huller; his son-in-law, Gerald "Gerry" Cherry; three brothers-in-law, Marcell Huller, Lavern Dressel, and Harold Smith; and three sisters-in-law, Micky Rochell, Marcella "Sally" Weidner, and Arlene Smith.
