Zion Lutheran Track Highlights

STAUNTON - Accomplishing a perennial season objective was on the agenda for the Zion Lutheran Track Team last Saturday at Murphysboro and the Panthers came away with objective accomplished.

The Panthers won the first place trophy for small schools in the SID (Southern Illinois District) Track and Field Meet by outdistancing a field of eleven other small schools (enrollment under 100). The Panthers scored 128 points in the 28 total team affair.

Paced by a strong hurdle contingent and a good sixth grade showing in the junior division enabled Zion to their lofty finish. Phillip Trettenero won the senior boys hurdles while Austin Hollaway did the same in the junior division. On the girls side, Zion went second and third in the juniors with Marissa Feldmann and Sara Poletti, respectively, and Madison Barker placing fifth in the senior division.

Other sixth graders who figured heavily in the scoring were Tommy Homeier, Dominic Trettenero, Trey Settles for the boys and Taylor Gaudette for the girls. Rounding out the Panther scoring was Cody Wiles, Tristan Coan, Jeff Settles, Daniel, Sarah, and Stephanie Paitz, Molly Margaritis, Andrew Cisler, and Taylor Barker. The Panthers will be making their 10th appearance in the State Lutheran Meet this weekend at Chicago River Forest.
